Dataset Abstract

Mean tree height and basal diameter per plot per species

Dataset Design

For this inventory we measured all Baccara focal trees; FunDiv focal trees plus neighbours and all trees in row 5, 11, 15 & 15 excluding the tree patches from the plot edge.

Spatial Extent

Biotree, Kaltenborn, Thuringia, Germany, Method for tree height: vertical height, i.e. not stem length; In case of multistemmed trees the height of the highest stem was considered as tree height. Method for diameter: diameter (2 directions) or measured as circumference. In case of multi-stemmed tree: the sum of the individual stems basal area was considered as total basal area. Please note that Quercus is represented by Quercus petraea and Quercus robur; For experimental design of the BIOTREE experiment and detailed informtion on soil properties see: Scherer-Lorenzen, M., Schulze, E.-D., Don, A., Schumacher, J. & Weller, E.
